Dereck Tarnow works at the Buda Location.
He teaches piano.
Derek Tarnow grew up in Temple, Texas and started taking
piano lessons when he was eight years old. He played
classically for five years, continued into saxophone and
clarinet in middle school, and then studied guitar as a young
teenager.
At Temple High School, he distinguished himself as a visual
artist and sculptor, winning various local awards for his
artwork. Derek also attained the rank of Eagle Scout, and
played jazz guitar in several region jazz bands.
After high school, he attended Temple Community College
where he continued his music studies and participated in the
College Jazz Band.
Swayed by Professor Freddie Mendoza’s jazz program at
Texas State, he entered their jazz program in 2007 as a junior.
Derek’s favorite hobby is cooking and specializes in Italian
and Asian/Thai foods. You can hear his jazz duet at the Root
Cellar in San Marcos every Friday.
